In the wisdom of the land we find our roots, our connection to country, to self, to creativity, the branches of inspiration, and the leaves of transformation.

Stories have the power to connect us to our past, our present, and our future. By honoring and sharing traditional knowledge through storytelling, we can create a more sustainable and harmonious world. It starts with story.

Indigenous knowledge holds the key to addressing all the challenges of our time – not just environmental, but in ways of governance, family, community, finance… The application of traditional knowledge extends to all aspects of our human-based societies. By integrating Indigenous thinking into our collective consciousness, Earth Legacy aims to inspire a return to a way of being that is in harmony with the Earth, rather than exploiting it. That is the start of every project, woven into the fabric of each creative endeavour.

Earth Legacy is a social good creative studio founded and lead by documentary photographer Andrew D Flanagan and his mentor Dig Jones. What was first drawn out in the sands by a campfire on Wiradurji country in New South Wales Australia turned into a vehicle to do what was asked by their elders; to help bring everyone back under the lore of the land. Every project we collaborate on seeks to do just that –  to redefine our relationship with the environment, with each other, with ourselves, and our mother earth.

As Dig says, ‘we are the ancestors of the future. It is our moral imperative to reimagine our place in the circle of life, not at the center but as a part of the whole, living under the lore of the land and in the pattern of creation’.  The vision for Earth Legacy stems from a deep-seated desire to reconnect First Nations people around the globe, rekindling ancient bonds and reawakening a sense of purpose and stewardship for the land. It is about honoring traditions and cultures, embracing the wisdom passed down through generations, and rediscovering our role as custodians of creation. By reconnecting with the land and embracing Indigenous ways of knowing and ways of being, integrating that into the foundational structures of how we create content, Earth Legacy takes a step to a future where all siblings, human and non-human, live in harmony.

Through Earth Legacy social good creative studio, we seek to create a platform for Indigenous peoples and their allies to come together, to sit around the campfire, share their stories, struggles, and triumphs, fostering a sense of community and solidarity that transcends borders and cultures, and bring that to the work that we collaborate on. Each project a testament to the power of storytelling and the resilience of the human spirit, reminding us that our past is not just a memory but a living, breathing part of who we are.

We see this digital world is a new campfire space, a new way to share right story. Story coming from the knowledge that indigenous thinking, indigenous ways of knowing, of being, have the power to save the world.

The First Yarn

Out here the earth breathes and speaks. The mountains sing and the stars above reflect the tales buried beneath every inch of it, stretching back to the beginning of time.

It was out here, on Wiradjuri Country in Australia that the idea for what would become Earth Legacy was drawn out in the sand; a circle of dots pressed into the earth beside a crackling fire. Each dot was more than a mark—it was to set out life’s work, a responsibility, a duty we carry as human beings. It was the stories sung into the earth that wrote the story of what I had to do; to bring as many people back under the lore of the land, as custodians of creation, to share the stories; this was the best way we knew how.

Maybe it was my experience I'd had, maybe in was my connection to him, or this last, I don't know. I had spent a career shooting around the world. I have been fortunate enough to travel to 127 countries and all 7 continents. I have seen the very worst of humanity, but I have also seen the very best. But it was my encounters with Dig, after removing another skin cancer, that he would tag me for a mission, a purpose, that would change the way I not only see the world, and operate in it, but shift the way I would leave it.

This is where Earth Legacy came from: to retrieve forward ancient wisdom and knowledge systems, sharing them with a modern audience through visual media, immersive experiences, through imagery that does more than capture—it connects, it communicates, it transforms. A studio that doesn’t just preserve the past but celebrates the present and inspires the future. It’s a place where we create work that humanity can learn to live in harmony with the natural world once more, guided by the wisdom of Indigenous cultures and, more importantly, by their processes—their ways of knowing, their ways of being. It’s not about the objects or the products, but about the understanding that lives within them, the processes that make those things possible.

The team that comes together to sit around the fire.

All knowledge is held within our web of relationships. It is this interconnectedness of existence and the critical role of storytelling in preserving and transmitting knowledge, embedded in the narratives passed down through generations for tens of thousands of years.

The strength of our work lies in the team we bring together to sit around the fire. Like a council of elders, each member of our team contributes their unique skills, perspectives, and experiences, making a braid of wisdom that guides our projects. Our collective approach ensures that every story we tell is imbued with depth, richness, and authenticity.

Just as every voice is essential around the council fire, every member of our team plays a vital role in shaping our creative process. From photographers to writers, designers to storytellers, aunties, uncles, grandparents, children, each have a unique voice to add to the conversation that enriches the work we make with you. We all come together around the fire to honor the traditions of the past while forging a path towards a more sustainable and harmonious future, sitting in our shared commitment to nurturing community relationships rooted in respect, understanding, and empowerment. Together, we strive to embody the Cherokee worldview concepts of Tohi (harmony) and Gadugi (working together for the greater good), creating work that not only resonates with our audience but also leaves a lasting impact on the world around us.
